What is a watch winder and why do you need one?

Most automatic watches stop running if you don’t wear them for a few days. A watch winder solves that by gently rotating your timepiece to keep it powered.

No more resetting the time or date before you wear it. Your watches are always ready to go, and the internal movement stays in better shape over time.

What makes The Winder different?

Most winders are noisy plastic boxes you stash in a drawer. The Winder was built to be proudly displayed. It winds your watches while showcasing them, runs whisper quiet, and is crafted with the kind of quality collectors actually care about.

Why should I use a watch winder?

Automatic watches are meant to be worn regularly, not left sitting in a drawer. When a watch remains unworn for extended periods, its lubricants can settle or shift away from critical components, which may lead to increased friction and reduced accuracy when worn again. A well-designed watch winder keeps your watch moving, helping maintain proper lubrication and ensuring it's always ready to wear. It also saves you the hassle of resetting the time, date, and other functions after periods of non-use.

How does the watch winder work?

The Winder rotates your automatic watch at preset intervals, mimicking natural wrist movement to keep it wound and running accurately.

Which watches is it compatible with?

The Winder is designed to accommodate most automatic watches, including Rolex, Omega, Breitling, and more. It supports multiple turn-per-day (TPD) settings and rotation directions to match different watch movements.

Are the watches on the top deck sitting directly on wood?

No, they’re not. While it may appear that way in some older images, the final version includes a soft vegan leather padding for the top row, ensuring your watches rest safely and won’t be scratched.

How much winding time is right for my watch?

Instead of measuring winding time in minutes or hours, watch winders use Turns Per Day (TPD), which refers to how many times the internal rotor needs to rotate to keep your watch running. Most automatic watches require between 600 and 800 turns per day (TPD), and some with longer power reserves may need up to 1300 TPD.

For example, a Rolex President typically needs around 600 TPD, while Patek Philippe chronographs with Valjoux 7750 movements require at least 800 TPD and only wind in a clockwise direction. Some watches can wind in both directions, while others only wind in one. A high-quality watch winder allows you to adjust both TPD and rotation direction to suit your specific watch.

That said, we’ve included options up to 1950 TPD to cover rare cases where a watch might require it — such as certain tourbillons, specialty movements, or heavily modified automatics.

Will it over-wind my watch?

No, that’s impossible. Automatic watches have a built-in slipping mechanism that prevents overwinding. However, continuous unnecessary rotation can put wear on the movement over time. That’s why all high-quality watch winders, including ours, are designed with programmed rest cycles to ensure your watch is maintained properly while protecting its longevity.

How long will an automatic watch run when unworn?

Most automatic watches will run for 42 to 60 hours without additional movement before stopping. A watch winder helps keep it running when not in use.

How many watches does it wind at once?

It winds 2 watches at a time.

How many watches does it hold in total?

It holds 5 watches in total — 2 in the winders and 3 displayed on the top pillars. The top deck also features vegan leather padding to protect your watches from scratches.

Why only a 2-watch setup? Will there be options to add more winders later?

This is based directly on feedback from our own community — we surveyed over 4,000 collectors, and the overwhelming preference was for a 2-watch winder. It serves a large portion of our audience. That said, if there’s enough demand, we may consider offering larger versions in the future.

Will there be a version that doesn’t include winders, just display/storage?

We don’t have a display-only version of The Winder planned — but we do have an entire range of premium display cases without winders. You can check them out here.

What are the exact dimensions and weight?

It weighs 10.7 lbs (4.74 kg) and measures 14.2" x 11" x 7" (36 cm x 28 cm x 18 cm).

Is there a maximum dial size it accommodates?

The Winder fits watches up to ~55mm (about 2.17 inches) in diameter.

What finishes will be available?

The Winder comes in walnut and black, designed to complement any collection and blend seamlessly into your space.

Will it be compatible with UK sockets and voltage?

It comes with a US socket, so you’ll need an adapter for use in the UK or other regions.

Will there be more finishes beyond black and walnut?

There are no additional finishes planned at this stage.

Will it include storage for EDC or jewelry?

Yes, it includes a built-in drawer for accessories like EDC items or jewelry.

Are the watch pillars the same size as in your other display cases?

Yes, the watch pillars are the same size as those used in our other cases.

How quiet is the winder?

As quiet as a tree falling in the forest when no one’s around — seriously quiet. Our co-founder Ian even tested The Winder in his bedroom and had the best sleep of his life.

Will it have lighting (and can it be added to other products too)?

Yes, it features built-in lighting. While it can’t be added to our other products at this stage, it’s something we’re actively exploring for future models.

Can you replace the winding mechanism if it fails?

If the winding mechanism fails during the two year warranty we will send a replacement.

Is it modular — can you add more winders later?

It’s not modular at this stage, so additional winders can’t be added later.

What type of motor is used?

We use ultra-quiet Mabuchi Japanese motors — the same type commonly found in high-end premium watch winders.

What makes the motor premium compared to other brands?

We use Mabuchi Japanese motors, which are known for their durability, low noise levels (25–35 dB), and high efficiency (up to 88%). These motors are commonly found in premium watch winders and are trusted for long-lasting, reliable performance — making them a top choice for high-end collectors.

How efficient is it?

The Mabuchi Japanese motor used in The Winder operates at an efficiency level of up to 88%, making it one of the most energy-efficient options in its class.

Will this winder magnetize my watch?

Not at all. We tested The Winder with a Gauss meter and the reading was below 1 Gauss — essentially zero magnetization. For reference, magnetization issues typically start around 60 Gauss, so this is well below any risk level. Many cheaper winders (especially on Amazon) don't account for this, but we've made sure ours is completely safe for even the most sensitive automatic movements.

What TPDs are available?

You can set the Turns Per Day (TPD) to suit your watch’s requirements. The available presets are 650, 750, 850, 1000, and 1950 TPD.

Can it be set to rotate clockwise, counterclockwise, or both?

Yes — it supports clockwise, counterclockwise, and bi-directional rotation.

Does it count wind cycles or have programmable settings?

Yes. The Winder operates for 12 hours and then rests for the remaining 12. During the active cycle, it rotates for 1 minute and then pauses for a preset duration based on the selected TPD (turns per day). For example:

  • 650 TPD: 1 min rotate / 571 sec rest
  • 750 TPD: 1 min rotate / 487 sec rest
  • 850 TPD: 1 min rotate / 423 sec rest
  • 1000 TPD: 1 min rotate / 350 sec rest
  • 1950 TPD: 1 min rotate / 150 sec rest

Does it wind continuously or intermittently?

It winds intermittently, following a precise cycle of rotation and rest based on the selected TPD setting. This helps mimic natural wrist movement and prevents overwinding.

Can the turns per day be adjusted?

Yes — you can choose from five preset TPD options: 650, 750, 850, 1000, and 1950.

Is it a dual-rotating winder?

Yes, each motor supports dual rotation — clockwise, counterclockwise, or alternating directions.

Is it quartz movement compatible?

Quartz watches don’t require a winder, since they’re battery-powered. The Winder is designed specifically for automatic/mechanical watches that benefit from being kept in motion.

Can it handle diving watches?

Yes — it can accommodate watches up to 55mm (2.17") in diameter, which covers most diving watches.

Will it be on par with Wolf winders in terms of not inducing magnetism?

Yes — The Winder is designed to avoid inducing magnetism, matching the standards of premium brands like Wolf. This is a common issue with many low-cost winders found on Amazon, which often lack proper shielding. We’ve specifically engineered ours to protect your watches from that risk.

Is the control touchscreen?

Yes, The Winder features a built-in touchscreen for easy access to all settings — plus, it also comes with a remote control for added convenience.

Is a remote included?

Yes, a remote is included for easy control of the winding settings.

What comes in the package?

Inside the box, you’ll find: the Winder, remote, power cable, white gloves, a cleaning cloth, and a printed instruction manual.

Is it battery-operated, AC-powered, or both?

The Winder is AC-powered and plugs into a standard wall outlet using the included adapter.

Will it be universally compatible for voltage (to plug into both 120V and 220V)?

Yes! The included AC/DC adapter supports 100–240V input, which means it works with both 120V (US) and 220V (international) power outlets. Just use a plug adapter for your local socket type if needed, and you’re good to go.

Can it be powered by USB or 12V?

It uses a 5V connection, delivered through the included AC/DC adapter that plugs into a standard wall outlet. While the voltage is similar to USB power, we recommend using the provided adapter to ensure optimal performance and safety.

How long does the battery last?

The cable is 2.4 meters long (about 7.9 feet), giving you plenty of reach and flexibility.

Is there a backup battery?

There is no battery. The Winder is powered directly through an AC connection.

How is the watch held in place during winding?

Each watch is secured with a pillow that fits snugly inside the winder slot — keeping your watch stable and protected during motion.

What is the sound level (in dB)?

The sound level ranges between 25–35 dB. It’s discreet enough for bedroom use — our co-founder Ian actually tested it in his room and slept like a baby.

How durable is the motor over time?

Very durable. The Japanese Mabuchi motors we use are known for their long-lasting performance and are commonly found in other premium winders. They’re built to far outlast the warranty period.

Does it come with a warranty?

Yes. The Winder comes with a standard 1-year warranty, and you can easily extend it to 2 years for free by registering through the insert included in the package.

What sets this winder above the others in the market?

This isn’t just a watch winder — it’s a meticulously designed piece of functional art. Powered by ultra-quiet Japanese motors, it features a responsive touchscreen display and individually programmable winders with a wide range of preset TPD (turns per day) settings that suit virtually every automatic watch.

It also stores 3 additional watches, includes a sleek drawer with premium metal runners for smooth access, and features soft leather padding on top for added versatility. Subtle LED lighting showcases your collection day or night, while the premium materials and flawless wood finish elevate the entire experience.

The result is a totally unique, space-optimized, and minimalist design built to elevate and protect your most treasured timepieces.

Will there be a single-watch winder version?

No, we’re currently only offering this dual-winder version.
